🏔️ A Soulful Journey to Tungnath, Deoriatal & Chandrashila – Trekking Through the Heart of Uttarakhand

When we say Uttarakhand is the land of hidden treasures, we truly mean it. Our recent trek to Tungnath, Deoriatal, and Chandrashila was not just another mountain journey—it was a spiritual and scenic escape into the very soul of the Himalayas. If you’re looking for a short yet unforgettable trekking experience that blends myth, nature, and adventure, this is the perfect trail.

📍 Our Route: Where the Journey Begins

Our trip began from Sari Village, a quaint little hamlet near Ukhimath, which acts as the base for the Deoriatal trek. The village welcomes you with smiling faces, terraced fields, and a promise of silence that city life often lacks.

🌄 Day 1: Deoriatal – Reflections and Rhododendrons

A short 2.5 km uphill walk through dense forest brought us to Deoriatal, a crystal-clear lake surrounded by oak and rhododendron trees. The first glimpse of Chaukhamba Peak reflecting on the lake was surreal—it felt like a living postcard. We camped near the lake, under a starlit sky, with stories, warm food, and a crackling bonfire keeping us company.

🛕 Day 2: Trek to Tungnath – Walking into Mythology

The next leg of the journey took us to Chopta, often called the ‘Mini Switzerland of India’. From here, we began our ascent to Tungnath, the highest Shiva temple in the world at 3,680 meters. Every step on this trail is filled with devotion, silence, and beauty. The trail winds through pine forests and meadows that glow golden in the sunlight.

Tungnath Temple, believed to be over 1,000 years old, stands as a humble stone structure amidst towering peaks. It’s not just a place of worship—it’s a place of peace.

🏔️ Day 3: Chandrashila Summit – Touching the Skies

The next morning, we started early for the Chandrashila summit, about 1.5 km above Tungnath. As we climbed in the cold, with the wind howling and the sun just beginning to rise, we were rewarded with a 360-degree view of some of the most majestic Himalayan peaks—Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedar Dome, Gangotri, and Chaukhamba.

Standing on that summit, watching the sun paint the mountains in gold, was a moment of pure magic. No photo could do justice to the feeling.
